Volunteer at the TMI

We are looking to grow and expand the offering of the hall to our local community and our neighbours. Right now we are a small but dedicated team, and we’re hoping to welcome new volunteers to help create great events, great memories, and more opportunities for our community to share this valuable resource.

Did you know?

The Tallarook Mechanics Institute is maintained and operated by volunteers. Our Committee of Management are all volunteers. And our live events programme, “Live at the TMI”, is volunteer-led.

Could this be you?

Here are the sorts of talents we’re on the look out for right now. What could you bring to the TMI?

  • Are you a whizz with all things social? Do you have a creative eye or a way with words?

We need help spreading the word about the hall, its programme of events, and the farmers market.

  • We’re on the lookout for team-players to help us with the set-up and pack-down of our events.

We also need Front of House staff to check tickets at the doors, help members of the public, and sell raffle tickets.

  • On the first Sunday of each month the TMI hosts our big farmers market. With upwards of 40 stallholders, we need help getting everyone in and out safely and ensuring they adhere to market procedures.

  • We sell freshly made coffee at our monthly farmers market and our public events, so we’re always on the lookout for a barista-trained volunteer to help us out.

  • We need more bar volunteers who hold a current RSA certificate.

Perks of the job

Here are a few of the ways we like to say “thank you” to our volunteers:

  1. Free admission to any event you help to produce

  2. A meal during your shift (when the kitchen is operating)

  3. Seasonal perks such as farmers market offers
